Real-time velocity tracking · km/h · mph · m/s · knots · ft/s · Private & instant · Download your speed chart
A GPS speedometer uses your device's built-in satellite positioning to measure real-time movement speed. Unlike mechanical speedometers, a GPS-based meter works universally across any transport mode — on land, water, or in the air.
SpeedMeter.live delivers this in your browser. No installation. No account. No data leaves your device. Open the page, select your activity, and start measuring in seconds.
Your browser requests permission to access your GPS sensor. The Geolocation API streams position updates every 1–2 seconds. An exponential moving average (EMA) filter smooths out GPS noise for stable, readable values.
A 10-minute live speed graph and a unique minute-by-minute speed log table let you track and analyze your session in real time — then download everything as a signed chart.
SpeedMeter.live is the only free online GPS speedometer that lets you download a verified speed chart as a JPEG image or PDF document. The downloaded file includes your full 10-minute speed graph, session statistics (current speed, peak speed, average speed, session time), activity mode, and a branded footer showing the SpeedMeter.live watermark, the date and time of the session, and a unique session ID — making it look and feel like an official, authenticated speed test result.
Imagine your friend just bought a new motorcycle and claims it can hit 180 km/h. Or a car enthusiast wants proof of their bike's top speed on a track day. Or a running coach wants a shareable performance record for their athlete. The downloadable speed chart solves all these scenarios:
Each downloaded chart is generated entirely on your device — your GPS data is never sent to our servers. The SpeedMeter.live branding, session timestamp, and unique session ID are added automatically to give the result an authentic, professional appearance that friends and followers will trust.
Switch between five measurement units to cover every use case from everyday driving to professional maritime navigation.
| Unit | Full Name | From m/s | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| km/h | Kilometers per hour | × 3.6 | Cars, cycling, running — metric countries |
| mph | Miles per hour | × 2.237 | USA, UK, and imperial countries |
| m/s | Meters per second | × 1.0 | Science, engineering, athletics timing |
| knots | Nautical miles per hour | × 1.944 | Maritime, aviation, international standard |
| ft/s | Feet per second | × 3.281 | Imperial technical, ballistics, aviation |
Each mode applies a tailored plausibility filter to prevent GPS spikes from skewing your statistics. A walking profile caps readings at 4 m/s; a car profile allows up to 90 m/s.

Location data is among the most sensitive information on your device. SpeedMeter.live is built on a simple principle: your data never leaves your device. Even the downloadable chart is generated locally — your GPS coordinates are never transmitted.
GPS accuracy depends on satellite visibility. Use the tool outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Urban canyons degrade signal quality. Indoors, accuracy is significantly reduced.
Allow 10–20 seconds after pressing Start for your device to acquire a strong GPS lock. The accuracy indicator in the cockpit bar shows your current signal quality in meters.
Download your speed chart at the end of a session for the most complete 10-minute graph. The branded PDF is ideal for sharing — it includes the session timestamp, your activity mode, peak speed, and the SpeedMeter.live verification footer.
Continuous GPS usage drains battery faster than normal. Enable Low Power Mode to reduce screen refresh rate during long sessions without affecting speed accuracy.
